We Do Not Need Nationalism!

Nationalism becomes a hot topic to be discussed in any chances and seems never ending story about this. Recently, Indonesia now is facing the problem of the nationalism, many poeple say. They believe that nationalism is the major problem that must be solved immediately to save the country and the nation. The problems of the generation is always be connected with the nationalism. The next generation should have more and higher nationalism in order to solve the problem of the nation and bring the nation to the highest victory. Many people talk about nationalism, The President, Ministers, Teachers, even the poeple around our life talk about it. But do they know the meaning of Nationalism? They also talk that, by having Nationalism we are able to buid the country and save the nation. Is that true? Earlier on the French Revolution, nationalism was the hottest topic that was always be discussed by many people and experts at that time. Hundreds or perhaps thousands book have discussed about the meaning of nationalism itself. Nationalism is related to the feeling of belonging, love and appreciate to the country or nation and expressed by doing something or other things. The Term of Nationalism is closely related to the feeling of Pride and Love, even just with a simple sentence or even word. The question is, is that enough for building this big country? Connecting with the next generation, the youth of the country, nationalism is reflected on their community, organization or any group activities that they join in. The Nationalism becomes the top issue that is always brought by the Community or Organization itself in developing their loyality. Then, if we connect to the definition of nationalism it could be “the feeling of pride, love and appreciate to their community”. Why? Because the nearest environment from the people is their community, it is really difficul to see the ordinary people touch the core of the Nation and then see they show their nationalism.

SCL : Score Centered Learning


“It is hard to say, but it real to see” –Ahmad RA-- Teaching and learning are the processes that needed in the aim of improvement and development. The things that become the top level  concern in teaching and learning process are the development of students’ knowledge and or ability, commonly called skill. Students are the object of the teaching learning process in old pareadigm of teaching. In the new paradigm of teaching, the students are becoming the subject and object of the teaching and learning process. In this kind of learning paradigm, the students have more activities in the classroom than only listen to the teachers’ explanation about materials of the lesson. This paradigm of teaching model commonly called Student Centered Learning or rephrased  as SCL. Nowadays, teachers and all education stakeholders become more concern to the result of the education. As mention before, education and educational process is conductued in the aim of improvement and develpment of the students/learners. The terms improvement and deveopment become a great words such kind of magical words that able to hypnotize many or even most of the teachers work hard and harder to reach both improvemenr and development. The thing that must be the highest concern is about the understanding of the teacher and educators about the term of improvement and development. Improvement and development relate to the quality and the ability of the outcome of the schools. Students ao learners are hoped to have better ability and quality in their knowledge and skill after they graduate from the school. Those terms are a little but to measure by using SCORE or the masrk of the certain tests. But, it is really ironic to see the fact that our education till nowadays still focus to the quality of the outcome by focusing to the improvement and develoopment of the students’ score. Whatever the technique and method are used by teachers, thay only focus on the students’ score without considering the students’ ability, skills and knowledge that basicly those are more important than only a score. There are many ideas and opinion that score represents quality, that is true for several certain condition. But, this idea becomes something dangerous for learners because in the next level of their live does not relate to the score itself, but skills and ability are more needed then. The educational system in this country seems turns to create a new learning model which is called Score-centered learning (SCL). The fact says that, since the National Examination becomes the last requirement for the graduation and determination whether the students are success or fail, the teachers seems loose their orientation in giving their maximum ability to improve and develop their students. Score becomes the biggest thing that they must consider in order to claim that their students are success. In every level of education in this country seems to be influenced and hypnotized by the power of SCORE. It is really ironic, in other side the Education aims to create a great generation with their ability and skills, but the fact shows that the EDUCATORS are only focus on the SCORE that does not represent the QUALITY, SKILL and ABILITY perfectly. The Government has chaged the curricullum for amny times, we have remembered about the Competency Based Curricullum (CBC) in 2004. It was such kind of a nice atmosphere for Educational sysytem in the Country, because this curricullum is based on the competency development and improvement of the learners. But the fact is really ironic, the assessment system that was used by the government is the same with the previous curricullum, that was only focus on the Cognitive aspect, not on the Psicomotoric aspect as the base of the Competency. The Design of the curricullum is great, but the appliation of the curricullum still keeps many problems in many sides. We can imagine, though we change till a hundred times, the curricullum and the result of the education will still fight each other, because the problem actually is not on the curricullum but on the Application on the Curricullum. Since the Curricullum nowadays is changed to KTSP, the school with all educators has more right to be craetive in improving the basic curricullum that has been given by the Government. But The last moment we see, everywhere in this country, before and after the National Examination, always become the shocking moment for The Minister of National education, every schools, teachers/educators, students and or even their parents. They only care and worry about SCORE, and no worry about the FUTURE. When the percentage is good the country seems in a great happiness, but when the percentage is not satisfiying, the Government will try to find the Solution HOW TO INCREASE THE STUDENTS’ SCORE, and not about HOW TO INCREASE THE STUDENTS ABILITY AND SKILLS for their future. PANCASILA : top down and bottom up

That evening reminds me about someone that has been showed on television. He is the one who has relationship with the former president of Indonesia, Soeharto. A long history has been felt by the people of Indonesia, but since the long history has gone, the thing that is coming nowadays as the moment for fulfilling the result of the long history. Everyone, I believe they understand and or even memorized about five sentences, statements that show the spirit of the country, PANCASILA. Everybody knows about the sentences and they also know about the meaning about them. In this big country, in the heterogeneous life the FIVE PILLARS of the country becomes the fundamental view and spirit for the people's life. Itut, on Metro TV explains that PANCASILA becomes the highest guide for the Indonesians' life. The PANCASILA was released in the aim to cover all life aspects of Indonesians. PANCASILA is rooted from the cultural view of Indonesia. Culture and human's life are always connected each other. they cannot be separated for any reasons. Every activities and peoples' life are related to their culture, and PANCASILA as the five pillars for the people's life covers all cultural views that sticked in Indonesians' life. Every fundamental activities are covered by PANCASILA. vice versa, fundamental activities that are being done by the people will reflect the spirit of PANCASILA. Economic, Politic, Law enforcement and others are some fundamental life aspects that must reflect the spirit of PANCASILA. Nowadays, the spirit of PAncasila Seems has been gone from Indonesia people's life. Many problems are solved without any consideration with the value of the Culture and PANCASILA itself. moreover, nowadays a biggest problem that is coming down to the entire country is the Government. What is wrong with the Government? As the highest level rule makers and the leader of the country, government should give the best Example to the people about the value of Culture and Spirit of PANCASILA. But, it is very ironic, the Government that is expected to give the best everything for the people, at least keep the spirit of PANCASILA to be the highest value of life in this country, seems to be gone. The country seems lied no where, no orientation and no PILLARS in the real life. Itut Soeharto explains, many people believe that PANCASILA is the Product of ORDE LAMA and ORDE BARU, it is not right and totally wrong. PANCASILA is the product of Indonesian People, because all statements in PANCASILA are inspired by the cultural values of Idonesian people and their real life. The people who said like that are only the people that they do not know about PANCASILA itself. The previous era on the ORDE LAMA and ORDE BARU, PANCASILA seems to be stronger than the moment on recent days. The implementation of PANCASILA nowadays seems to be a theory, the central government, the house of representatives in Senayan only talk loud about the highest Value of Pancasila, but they never try to touch the real meaning of Pancasila. The life of Indonesian seems no guide because of the Government has lost the supreme guide of the View of life in the country. Itut says that, The Government never practices Bottom-Up, from the grass-root people then bring to the top of the government. this condition is really happened in this country, the fact prove that prosperity, health, education become the biggest problems for Indonesian People. Why? because Government never try to touch the problem by Bottom-Up order. Means, the government nowadays are only talking and tlaking about the theory of PANCASILA and the Value of Life, but NOTHING to do after that. Different with the previous Governments, Soekarno-Soeharto put the View of Life in Indonesia as the fundamental life view in the Country. They Practiced clearly from the Bottom-Up order in applying the Value of PANCASILA, because it is rooted from the Cultural value of Indonesian. It is the Biggest problem that we have faced until this moment, seems to be a little problem but it is the highest problem that needs the most priority solution. No, matter how complicated the problem of the Country, but government Should solve the problem immediately, "And the most important thing, the Government Must Come Back to the Basic and Fundamental View in seeing Pancasila, They Must do apply the PANCASILA from the BOTTOM to UP   not from the theory of TOP to DOWN".

NLP : Prepare for the winners!

Teachers and education are two things in one, which teachers are the important part in the educational system and educational process. Every teacher in whole part of the world is hoping to make their students to be success and be better people in the world. Not many teachers know that to be a Perfect teacher is really difficult. being a teacher, for most of the teachers is only being the one who will deliver the material to students and or try to make sure that their students will get good score in the test or examination. It is the term of Teacher. But, nowadays with a huge and huger challenge from the world, a teacher is forced much and more to be more than a teacher, but be an Educator. An educator is a teacher who gives both material and education beyond of the material to improve the students' quality in knowledge, in intelligence  and become the winner for their life. To create a great generation with those characters, the teachers are forced to have a great qualification in conducting the teaching and learning process in the classroom,especially. A teacher must fulfill all "competences" and apply them in the real learning, and more a teacher must have a great technique and method plus learning strategies in the teaching process. Strategies? those are the biggest problem for teachers in recent years. Started with those problem, Social Responsibility Department (LPM) of University of Muria Kudus makes a cooperation with MI Islamiyah Gamong, Kudus to conduct a One Day Seminar and Training Program in the School in objective to prepare the students to have better way in learning through NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming. The NLP is a new concept in Learning process, especially related to the strategy that used by teachers in conducting teaching and learning process in the classroom. Since it was foud and developed by educators and experts in United States several years ago, The NLP now is becoming an alternative way in creating a good strategy for teaching and learning process. The NLP focuses on the mental and character building which brings the believe that every student is unique and has their specific competence. Teachers should not force the students to follow their way in teaching and learning process, but then teachers should adapt and control their teaching learning ways and technique based on the student needs. Moreover, teachers should be always positive thinking to the pupils, because students are only following what their teacher say or are saying. The Power of words also be one important focus in the NLP, every teacher is forced to be always positive thinking and give motivation for their students because the word they say (teachers) to students will be the reality they see. The last part, Ahdi Riyono, the trainer of the Program said that "This program is aimed to improve the teachers' quality in teaching learning process, refresh their minds about the new view in teaching learning process and prepare for the winners in the end of the process". As a teacher, of course we must try to improve and develop our quality every time, and always try to update then upgrade our ability in facing the new challenges in education, and more the challenges for the world.

It's time to Wake Up

"Give me 10 youths then I will shock the World" - Soekarno. This is a great proverb and words that able to shock the world, hopefully. The Founder of Our Country has believed that this country must walk and or run for facing the new development and new challenges that are coming and will always come for challenging the country, the people and the GENERATIOn. Youth, from the proverb, shows that the basic spirit and power  that are needed in SHOCKING the world is the spirit and power from the youth. Whose youth? the Country Of course. Long time before the Independence day was declared by the founder of the Country, the youth lead by Dr. Sutomo in 1908 through an organization that is affiliated to Struggle by gathering the power of youth called BUDI UTOMO has started their struggle. They had a different way in struggling the Independence for the Country, Sutomo and friends opened their action through an Intellectual-Struggle which showed their ability, capability and ideas without weapon and physical-war. let's say it was a kind of an Intellectual war of youth. The long history has shown that They have made Our Country wake Up from the sleep, since hundreds years ago We only believed that to Struggle for our independence we must fight by weapons and physical war, but Sutomo and friends has given Us the new season of view and thinking. long time after all those history, 90 years later on May 1998 there was a huge history of youth action for the REFORMATION of the country. The first sight, it seemed a kind of a Very heroic action for changing the Life and the Future for the Country after the "Orde Baru" of The Dictator Soeharto at that time. But, after all action of The Youth, Students, Collegers, there was and there is no clear direction as the follow up of the REFORMATION action on may 1998. Seems today, after the action We lost the orientation for the REFORMATION as the biggest Phenomenon of the Youth Awakening in Indonesia. What we should remember is, When Soetomo and his pals Decided to create Budi Utomo as the Organization and Movement for struggling their (Indonesian people) right from the Colonialism, they have clear orientation and Program after they declare the Budi Utomo. Moreover, many of Budi Utomo members are the activist in many other Organizations that have the same objective to struggle the People's right and Independence. In simple word, the movement on Sutomo's era was in a unity movement and no other interests from several other people or group. But, what about 1998? What did we do to continue the REFORMATION? we sleep, after that. The things who speak are only the interests from several people or several groups which knew that they can utilize the moment to reach their interests and profits. Reformation as one of the Youth Revolusionary action, nowadays is such kind of a LOST KITE, no Orientation and no clear Direction even after it has been declared and witnessed by all people in this country. Our Youth, Our Generation nowadays are sleeping. At least, the National Aawakening Day will remind Us that we have ever had some experiences that we are able to be the best teacher and guide for the Country and the generation, the youth at the next years, or even centuries. Wake Up, It is The WAKE UP TIME for US, the YOUTH the NEXT generation of the COUNTRY. Not Only a LOUD VOICE, but a REAL ACTION. WAKE UP...

Cultural University VS Planning Culture


UMK : Cultural University and Planning Culture. Cultural Univeristy is the dream of the academicians of University of Muria Kudus. Cultural University represents the whole culture which reflect the academic athmosphere and make all everything in the academic  life in the University are based on the positive cultures related to academic atmosphere. Since, the University planned to reach the dreaam to be a Cultural University, the authority were trying hard to fulfill and create the academic atmosphere in UMK be better than before. Many activities, programs and facilities are prepared to success the program. Cultural University is an Expensive value that needs to have great planning behind. Cultural University covers all kinds of positive cultures that represent and show the spirit in academic life atmosphere. The Culture that are hoped to be appeared in the University, sucha as ; Discussion culture, Critical Thinking Culture and High Spirit Culture. Those Cultures are not only for the students as the subject and object of the education system in UMK. But, all personel in UMK are also involved in this term. Cultural University is needing a lot of requirements to fulfill. One of them is Planning Culture. We realize that, the term of Cultural University needs a high requrement in the planning side. Means that, before all of us believe that our University is having and known as the Cultural University, we have to do several steps of Cultures include the Planning Culture. Why Planning Culture is becoming a big issue that must be concerned, because everything the actions that are done and excecuted are based on the planning step. If the planning is good, of course the program mostly can be run well. We have to realize that we still have to learn more in how to make a good planning. Planning means preparing anything before we or the authority take actions. Planning does not only plan and prepare the material side, like building, facilities but also prepare the mental side of the students and also the personel that are included in. We can see, perhaps there are several programs or activities are not able to be finished or even excecuted well by the academic society in this campus, because there is no good planning before. We, perhaps could see when the personel or the administrator are in hurry when they are doing something such kind of Activities, because they have no preparation before or have but not maximum in planning. We do not know what is the exact reason in doing this, but May this condition is inflenced by Our People’s culture that is “Indonesian People Like Deadline”. The last experience was happened to the author, when the author was joining a kind of Competition in Regional stage. There the committee was asking about the GUIDANCE that must be used by every participant in this competition, and of course the INNOCENT participant from this Campuz could not answer the question, because since the first time selection fro the Campus there was no Information to use such kind of Guidance in joining the competition, moreover the selection in campus stage seemed like a Selection in hurry, because there was no enough time for participants to explore more their competencies and no enough time for preparing the best material to be presented. It shows that, Planning and Preparation are really important in Every Kind of Condition, not only for certain activities that is or are going to be assessed. WE have a great dream, the consequence is we must make a great step and planning. We are talking about the dream of our University, means that we are also talking about the Planning that must be considered and made by the all components in this Beautiful Campus. Especially the Authority of this Campus as the major decision maker in this RAINBOW University.

Member Only!


“Members Only!”. At the first side, we see this sign is like a common sign to find in some public places. They have meanings, and they have more specific meaning according to the place in. In UMK, we also could find this kind of sign, In one room of English Education Department (EED) of  Teacher Training and Education Faculty. The room is called SAR or Self Access Room. The Self Access Room is aimed to provide many sources for students especially for English Students in searching and finding data for their projeccts and assignments. The question is,”what is the relationship between that SIGN “Members Only!” and the SAR room?”.The sign is sticked on the cupboard or the bookshelf of SAR room. Everyone knows that the function of the sign is aimed to remind the visitors of the SAR room not to open the shelf and borrow the book. At the first time, this sign shows a good system in SaR that is used by the authority in administering the room. But in another side, this sign creates many problems, for the students especially.  As the sentence before, the SAR room is existed aimed to provide many sources and data for students in finishing and completing their assignnmments, but this sign blocks and gives obstacles for students in finding data they need. According to the sign, Only the members of the SAR room that are allowed to open the shelf and borrow the book although the book are not allowed to be taken home by members. This condition creates a large effect for many students who really need the sources for their assignments even for their last project (skripsi). Everyone also knows that the book which are placed in the “bookshelf” are the book which published on the year up of 2004, so they are really good and new books and sources to have. But in other side, the students are only able to see NOT to read or even borrow. So, what is the FUNCTION of the books in the SAR room, if the students are not allowed to use the sources? “except the members”, the administrator said. Then, if the problem is about being problem or not, the administrator or the Authority should provide the solution for this problem. Many students were trying to ask about how to be the member of the SAR room so they can use the books and sources. But, again the administrator did not give the clear answer for this problem. The administrator cannot explain how to be the member of SAR room. So, the sign which is existed, actually not existed. Beyond of the problem in SAR room, It reminds me about something larger. It reminds me about the problem in OUR beloved COUNTRY, the government is always trying to make new regulations but they do not understand what regulation they have made. They are able to say “loudly”, but they do not know the meaning. They provide something, but the others can get that thing. They create something USELESS to see and to understand. Although this condition is really happened here, but at least we still be able to study well in this place. Even we are not THE MEMBER.

KKL 2011 : Still The Same Question.


“KKL UPDATE 2011”. April 2011 was the nice time for the fourth semester of English Education Department (EED) University of Muria Kudus. They were enjoying their time for around 5 days in Bali in conducting a Field project or KKL. This program reminds us with the same program like in last year that was conducted in Jogjakarta. The KKL program is raimed to improve the knowledge for the students and give the real practice for the students through several activities that are programmed by the committee. The discussion today, is not about the destination, the COST or the travel agency that had created a Huge problem like was happened last year. The big Question that is likely should be asked is about the Correlation of the Program, and the output from the program that is hoped to get by the students. Many people say that this program is only wasting money, because all of us know that the cost is not cheap or cheaper than before. Definitely it is more expensive than before. It seems a common opinion, but if we see the Fact, perhaps we will think twice or more. KKL is having  a great objective, but in a short time is likely impossible to reach all the objective perfectly except the RECREATION. There was no denial about the program or any demonstration to reject the program but still the correlation is the big question that must be answered by the authority. We agree if we have a great program with a great objective, but the thing that must be considered is the correlation, the effectiveness of the program. Hope the next term, the authority will create and establish good program, with good objectives and with good consideration of time and the output and correlation.

Campus and "Nationalism"

Recently we have found many kinds of news appears on media "talk" about the Kidnapping of several students (collegers) from several campuses in Indonesia. Many people claimed that this kidnapping is a recruitment process of A Certain Separatism Organization that exists for a long time ago in Indonesia. This Organization is called NII (Negara Islam Indonesia) which has an aim to Create a New Order of A Country with The Religion Value (islam-) as the basic Idea and sources for any laws. People and The Organization itself claim each other like a debate competition to show who is wrong and who is right, the different is there is NO reply speaker or the speaker which has the duty to end the Debate with a Nice closing speech. In this Case the Government should take this position. Most of Us only care about the Question, "Who did this kind of action (kidnapping)Many people, even some experts believe that the kidnapping is aimed to recruit the new member of that Organization to enlarge the Organization and reach their aim. But, beyond of all opinions or ideas about the Kidnapping, what we should care is about the Question, "Why this phenomena could happen in this era?".

Jepara : A little Heaven on The Corner

Jepara. It is a little hometown for me and perhaps for everyone who lives in. The Place is never being Empty by the people who are looking for the beauty of life. I believe it so, My Beloved hometown gives something special for everyone who has ever visited it, moreover when they live in. I was born and growing up in this beautiful and small Hometown which is located on the Corner of the Island of Java. I am happy, not many people know that Jepara has a great treasure which never been imagined by others about. Since I stepped my feet on this land, I agreed also that it is only a small "empty" place with a lot of "wood" furniture and "labors" without any more things I can find. Then, I realized this view is only a small thing that I have found on this beautiful Heaven on the Corner of Java Island. I am happy become A Jepara's One. I believe, start from now, tomorrow and maybe forever I will have more love to My hometown then I will show you, the People of the World that in This Huge Country you will See, there is a Small Heaven on The Corner of Indonesia. Jepara, They Say, "It is a Centre for the World Carver", but for me "It is everything, a heaven and more than only a World Carving centre".

Mereka Bilang "DRAMA"mahal!!

UMK. Kudus. Pagelaran Pentas drama mahasiswa program studi pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Muria Kudus. Telah berakhir akhir Desember lalu. Pagelaran yang dilaksanakan berbeda dengan tahun sebelumnya yang mengusung KOnsep "Simple and Easy". Pagelaran drama tahun ini dilaksanakan di dalam ruangan Kelas perkuliahan FKIP yakni ruangan G,H dan I (depan gedung Orange FKIP). Sukses pagelaran drama tahun ini masih menyisakan beragam kesan bagi mahasiswa sendiri, bahkan masih segar pula ingatan segenap mahasiswa mengenai KOntroversi masih dilaksanakannya Mata Kuliah Drama tahun 2010. Perdebatan mengenai masih adanya mata kuliah DRama di tahun 2010 lalu memang bukan hal baru, namun yang perlu divermati adalah apa sebenarnya yang diperdebatkan dalam persoalan ini. Perdebatan dimulai dengan Membeandingkan bahwa Mata Kuliah DRama atau drama itu baik atau tidak baik bagi mahasiswa Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris dengan mengangkat embel-embel pendidikan yang dianggap tidak sejalan dengan drama yang notabenenya adalah sebuah karya SASTRA dan bukan pendidikan. Tetapi pendapat yang semacam ini sudah bisa termentahkan, karena baik/tidak baik itu relatif yang patut dipersoalkan adalah Sesuai atau tidak sesuainya mata Kuliah ini untuk dipertahankan di Program Studi Bahasa Inggris. beberapa pendapat mengatakan Mata Kuliah Drama ini MAHAL. Benarkah? Di awal perkuliahan drama tahun 2010 lalau, sang Dosen telah memberikan penjelasan Gamblang mengenai Permasalahan, seluk beluk serta berbagai hal mengenai mata kuliah drama serta pagel;aran drama yang akan dilaksanakan. termasuk didalamnya adalah mengenai pengelolaan dana untuk masing-masing kelompok drama. Tercatat di dalamnya adalah BAHWA SETIAP KELOMPOK BOLEH MEMAKAI PELATIH ATAU TANPA PELATIH untruk menunjang penampilan drama tiap kelompok dengan konsekuensi dana yang dikeluarkan akan menjadi lebih besar tapi dengan hasil yang diharapkan lebih baik juga. Kenyataan di lapangan, dari pengamatan penulis, hampir sebagian besar kelompok drama tahun 2010 ini menggunakan jasa PELATIH, jadi jika hampir semua keloompok menggunakan jasa pelatih, wajarlah jika menjadi lebih mahal tapi ini adalah PILIHAN kelompok, bukan pilihan pengmapu Mata kuliah drama. Kemudian, darimana anggapan DRAMA ini menjadi lebih mahal? ternyata, penelusuran penulis menemukan kurang baiknya manajemen keuangan kelompok, bahkan ada pula yang tidak atau kurang memiliki perencanaan keuangan yang baik alias asal-asalan. Bahkan yang paling mengejutkan adalah ada kelompok yang mana Sampai PERTUNJUKAN telah selesai mereka masih kisruh mengenai uang iuran untuk membayar Pelatih Drama alias Pelatihnya Belum dibayar Lunas Sampai Pertunjuka telah selesai. Jelas ini metrupakan sebuah keksalahan manajemen yang tidak sepatutnya terjadi. Jadi anggapan drama itu mahal merupakan sebuah Pilihan dari Kelompok, karena semua keputusan untuk mengelola dana ada di tangan kelompok yang bersangkutan. Pribadi, penulis menyatakan Drama baik-baik saja untuk tetap dilaksanakan asalkan dengan tema dan acuan tetap mengedepankan nilai-nilai kependidikan yang dimasukkan ke dalam tema drama. Bravo Drama.

"Mau" Kemanakah Kita?

UMK.Kudus. Pertanyaan singkat ini mengingatkan penulis pada suatu ketika mengikuti mata Kuliah Bahasa Indonesia yang diampu oleh Dra.Yustinah,M.Pd. Pertanyaan yang singkat, tetapi memerlukan waktu yang cukup lama, bahkan sangat lama untuk mampu menjawab pertanyaan ini. Pertanyaan ini sangt tepat ditujukan kepada Mahasiswa-mahasiswa UMK, yang kini sedang dalam proses pencarianjati dirinya. Kemana??? adalah sebuah pertanyaan mengenai kemana kita akan menancapkan masa depan kita. melihat dan mendengar Predikat mahasiswa sepertinya masyarakat umum akan memberikan predikat tinggi kepada MAHASISWA. sebuah tingkatan di atas SISWA biasa, karena MAHA artinya besar atau Agung. tetapi apakah kita sudah mampu mengarahkan masa depan kita sesuai dengan Besarnya predikat yang kita punyai sekarang??? Cultural University yang merupakan Visi utama Universitas Muria Kudus ini nampaknya menghadapi jalan berliku yang masih cukup panjang. Cultural University seyogyanya ditunjukkan oleh Budaya mahasiswa-mahasiswinya yang menjunjung nilai-nilai pengetahuan serta akademis di setiap kegiatan yang dilaksanakannya. Bukan hanya dalam kelas, tetapi setiap perilaku pun hendaknya di landasi dengan jiwa Berpendidikan. Kita bisa melihat apa yang terjadi di UMK sekarang. Bagaimana keadaannya? Kegiatan Mahasiswa ? bahkan Minat Mahasiswa untuk pengembangan diri? Minim. Itulah kata yang sanggup penulis lontarkan. Jika demikian, maka Bukan hanya CULTURAL UNIVERSITY yang akan menjadi sebuah visi buntu, melainkan arah masa depan mereka pun akan Buntu. Merubah membutuhkan proses, dan proses itulah yang sekarang ini sedang diusahakan oleh segenap otoritas UMK bersama segenap Mahasiswa yang diharapkan ikut serta mewujudkan jargon utama UMK itu. Karena, dengan tercapainya Jargon itu, maka Masa depan bukanlah menjadi sebuah mistery, tetapi kepastian bagi setiap mahasiswa yang nantinya akan meningglakna UMK tercinta. Senoga segenap usaha yang sedang dilaksanakan ini berjalan lancar, serta peran serta mahasiswa mampu mewujudkan visi ini, demi UMK dan demi arah masa depan kita bersama.

Amazing Malioboro

Malioboro. In The Field Project 2010 (KKL 2010) the Commitee decided to visit Malioboro as one of the Tourist object to visit. Malioboro or Malioboro street is one of the Most Popular tourist object in Jogjakarta. No one forget with Malioboro when they visit Jogjakarta.
    Located in the central of the Jogjakarta city, makes Malioboro street always and always be crowded everyday. Many people say, or even the tourists say that "Malioboro Never sleeps". We can see from the crowded in all over the street by the sellers of many things and tourists from the evening till morning ofcourse.
    Malioboro as one of the Main / Protocol street in Jogjakarta is also be one of the Most crowded business centre. We can find so many business activities in this place. Beside that, it also has connection with the Jogjakarta's History, as we know that Malioboro street is also near with the Keraton Jogjakarta ( Jogjakarta Palace ).
    Business activities in Malioboro, mainly dominated by the trading activities or shopping activities, in small context ofcourse. Souveniers, Batiks, and everything special from Jogjakarta are here. The visitors and tourists mostly are local people outside of Jogjakarta. But, we still also find several Foreigners came and did sideseeing there, or even buy several souveniers.
    KKL 2010 visited Malioboro, seemed nice to us. Shopping is the one thing that could not be left away. Evening, all participants of KKL arrived in Malioboro, but there were raining. But shopping desire could not be held on. Waited for a moment, and we did the action to see and to buy something special there. One most important rule that we have to remeber when we are shopping in Malioboro is "BARGAIN". Because the seller might make the price of the stuffs be more and more expensive than before, if You are a great bargainer here is the place for you to hunt and to get better.
    Malioboro today is different than in several years ago. We can see the differences are from the Facilities for example ; Parking area, and the location of the sellers. Now is better than before, we think.
    Not only about Batiks, Shirts, T-shirts, and all kind of special souveniers in Malioboro, but also special food from Jogjakarta are sold here too. We were so surprissed with the number of the special food sellers in Malioboro, more and more than before. And finally we found so many kinds and brands of special foods of Jogjakarta. Bakpia pathok, Geplak, and many others are there.
    Beyond all experiences about shopping there, In Malioboro we can also see the great thing that is The Cultural Transmission. If we analyze, not all the sellers in Malioboro are from Jogjakarta, most of the are from Outside of Jogjakarta. We saw how the visitors who came from different places did bargaining with them, and the differences with us. And the greatest is several or many sellers are College students from the biggest University in Jogjakarta, they worked there and some of them said the money is for paying the Fee of their Study. The "Great" Borobudur Temple -Ever

Borobudur temple was the second tourist Object of KKL 2010. We visited it on the Last day before we were on the way to UMK. Visiting Borobudur Temple made our desire be differnt with visiting Malioboro street. In Malioboro street we had desire to do shopping, but here We are faced with a different desire, that is to Respect the History and Our Cultural richness as an Indonesian People. As the part of Teacher Training and Education Faculty we should transfer to our students not only about English, but also the respectness to everything even outside of the lesson. And here, we just realized it.
    Borobudur temple is located in Magelang ( Magelang regency ) and quite far from the centre of the Magelang city. Borobudur temple keeps a great history and Legend in its huge shape. In the past, it was one of the Seven Wonders of the world, but now it's not anymore. Not a problem, for Indonesian people, Borobudur is still a Wonder and wonderful.
    The Legend began in the Syailendra era, there was a King which Loves a Princess, and the Princess gave the requirement to the King if He wanted to Marry her, He had to make 1.000 Temples in a night, and In a night the King tried to make it by the help of his friends, but finally he failed to make 1.000 Temples on time.
    Other Legend said that, In Syailendra era the built of Borobudur temples spent 50 years long. And the architeque was Gunadharma.
    Beyond of all Legends and stories about Borobudur, many scientiest and Historists believed that the built of Borobudur temple Had no Correlation with the Romantic story of the King and Princess, but about the Gunadharma scientists believed that the built spent 50 years because of the process was not easy and too heavy to build. The base material of the Borobudur temple is stone, that according to the scientiests are taken from the river near with Borobudur Complex. Then the stones are carved and then sticked each other with special glue or something. The architeque also made the drainage system like holes in each steps and corners with a beautiful statue, because the location of Borobudur in Tropical country, so when the rainy season comes, the water is not a problem.
    According to the facts, the Borobudur temple was built at the beginning of the 8th Century, and at the 11th Century the explotion of Merapi mountain broke it and made it covered by the Explotion materials. That's why in Majapahit or Galuh Sunda's Kingdom History there was no Borobudur existence. And then at 1814, Raffles found the Borobudur and after that the observation were done agin and again till the complete shape of Borobudur is found.
    The shape of Borobudur temple is almost same with Limas, and it has three grade yards. There are 504 Buddha statues and 400 other little statues. In Borobudur temple we also foud the The Stupas. There three kind of stupa, those are The main stupa ( stupa induk ) only 1 on the top of Borobudur temple, Medium stupa 72 pieces, and little stupa on all over part of Borobudur, they are 1422 pieces. On all the wall side of Borobudur we also find and can see the relief. The relief retells the story and histor about the built of Borobudur, the Peoiple at that time and the kingdom at that time also.
